Editing:
Overall:
- Music used - Instead of using music I was able to get copyright free of, I instead decided to use my own music and record this as a video, transfer it to my laptop from my phone and then insert just the audio into iMovie. I chose to do this because I thought the acoustic sound of the piano would compliment the content of my audio visual as well as the fact it was simplistic allowing the audience to focus on the meaning behind what the people in the video themselves were saying instead of being distracted by the music itself.
- I used iMovie to edit my audio visual with some help of VSCO cam. I used the basic software of iMovie using its features such as the green screen tool used and overlaying clips using the opacity tool. Ive also used online software used in modern social media platform such as Facebook called "gify" allowing me to create looped short clips with my own footage and overlaying glitched styled text on the top creating the futuristic and modern tone I wanted my piece to have in order to further reach to my target audience, 16-35 year olds as well as informing older people and giving them an insight into the majorly overlooked creative and expressive future generation. This effect could not otherwise be achieved through iMovie. I used screen recording in order to insert it into iMovie. Similarly I used VSCO cam to filter my videos. I used a darker exposure and lighter contrast to give a dark toned audio visual in order to emphasise one of the points I was trying to make through its productions, that people are still very much 'in the dark' and unaware of the potential the future generation has. I also a green tinged white balance effect in order to give the whole piece quite a chemical and unnatural feel. This helped relate to the other point made/ the point I was trying to make that this generation feels the need to filter everything, from photos to there words and the way they speak/ feel the need to present themselves.

editing decisions: explanations and analysis:
First minute:
- Opening image and background - Katie Mayer, used footage from original substance abuse idea so that it wasn't wasted footage. I used this image as it had multiple colours and I thought it helped to reflect a creative and lack of confinement, a theme reoccurring throughout the programme. I used gify to create the glitched text with the title "The n00rties", the use of 00s showing the sense of rebellion that is clear in this generation.
- I then stated that it was an "episode" as to clearly imply that this is part of a series so that the audience knew that it was. I used the gify software to create the typing effect as well asbusing the typewriter sound for dramatic effect.
- Introduction of characters - starts with Eliza. The setting is Liverpool Street in London with her name and age in subtitles to put emphasis on this. Contains both medium and close up shots of character. Introduction of Lily with a variety of overlaid clips. Setting - dance studio in my sixth form centre, played with overlaying the lights and contrasting colours. Introduction of Katie Mayer, setting is my house and using my multi coloured light I bought to experiment with colours on faces. Lastly, the introduction of Lauren played with her holding the camera and spinning it round (or it spinning round with her). I thought that even though in the 3 minute snippet it does not preview and interview of her character, such close proximity between camera and character helps to build a sense of familiarity between audience and people involved in the production.
- Overlaid different proximity of shits with Eliza and short snippets helping to set the location and provide context for the audience watching. This also helps the audience to familiarise themselves with her character. Repetition of glitchy text is used in keeping with previous frames but different more childish font is used with irony. Laughing shot overlaid in slow motion so that its long enough to cover - this is an in built slow motion effect on iMovie.
Second minute:
- Eliza is then show on a screen discussing anxiety - this was the key turning point/ point of conflict in my piece. I didn't want to focus on a physical conflict but instead focus on a mental/ internal conflict in which I felt the target audience as well as myself could relate to. I thought this would also seem relevant when advertising to a big Tv company as the demand for more discussions on mental health is a topic very relevant to todays increasingly stressful and heavily pressurised society. The video is of the screen so from the perspective of an audience member. I then used a green screen youtube video going up in subscribers and used the green screen tool on iMovie overlay this on the clip. I thought that this would make Eliazas story more believable to an audience and demonstrate the big reach that social media can have now with this being further emphasised through the steady increase in proximity with the numbers and screen with the end of the frame just focusing on the numbers. I also did this to help to highlight the fact that numbers and likes are becoming more relevant to self worth in todays society and the sadness of that. After this, the next few frames are in a variety of settings on Hanbury street in London, a very upcoming and freeing area known for its fashion, accepting and diverse culture. Eliza discusses role models in which a montage of screenshots of peoples instagrams who are considered as role models play, controversial political figures such as Obama and trump as well as modern day icons in the likes of Kim Kardashian and Cara de Lavigne. I used the background of "love" to provide contrast to the top of self hatred and self revulsion that Eliza was talking about.
- I then introduced the character of Lily, I wanted to keep the laughing and background noise from the clip to provide her introduction with character and warmth contrasting from Eliza's when discussing societal pressures. I used the setting of the dance studios and the lights to experiment visually and overlay contrasting colours such as blue and pink. I further emphasised this contrast through editing by increasing the contrast and decreasing the exposure to make the colours stand out more which is then aided by the overlay of videos helping to voice the loudness and humorous of her character/ personality I am wanting to portray and wanting to use to lighten the mood/ contrast this.
